A Day in the Souks

Thanks to the Beirut debacle, Casey and I were able to spend two whole days together IN A ROW!  It was glorious.  We tried to go to the souks Sunday night, but there was SO much traffic, we couldn't find anywhere to park and we were tired already, so we went home.  We went back Monday afternoon and rode Metro so we didn't have to worry about parking.  The Dubai Metro is seriously the nicest, cleanest, most beautiful mode of public transportation I've ever seen.  It beats the heck out of Paris's urine-scented subway.

Check it...

Now on to the souks.  We planned on going to all of the souks in old Dubai, but we only made it to the gold souk and part of the textile souk.  We wandered a little too far into the neighborhood away from the souks and saw a family of skinny little kitties eating out of a dumpster, so if things like that make you sad, you'll want to close your eyes in approximately 9 pictures.  Half of the shops were closed for National Day, but it was a fascinating trip nonetheless.  I can't wait to go back, ride the abra across the creek and check out the spice souk!

We got hungry on our way to the spice souk and I was craving lettuce wraps, so we went to the Dubai Mall.  This was our view from P.F. Chang's.  Some things in Dubai are so beautiful.

Here she is again, the Burj Khalifa.  Someone hurry and visit so we can go to the top!

The largest water fountain in the world.

And that concludes our trip to the souks.  Besides constantly missing my family and friends, I don't normally feel like I'm living in a foreign country, but yesterday I definitely did.
