The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. If you're planning to visit, we're definitely taking you here. It's too beautiful for me to describe, so I'll just let you see for yourself. The only thing I'm annoyed with is that whoever built this beauty decided to build it so massively that regular Joes (Casey and I) can't get the whole building in one photo.
Without further adieu, here are our half, quarter and even smaller portioned photos of the grandest mosque in all of the the emirates.
No tight clothing or cleavage, you hussies.
How long does it take a girl from Texas to figure out the abaya...
Approximately 4 photos.
I've been waiting to wear this since we moved here :)
Shoe drop off.
As you can see, I was obsessed with this lamp. We have like 400 pictures of it to prove it.
Prayer clock starting at 5:32 am and ending at 7:09 pm. Sometimes we see people pulled over on the side of the highway kneeling in the sand as they pray towards Mecca :)
Beautiful, eh?
Fun facts:
- It's the eighth largest mosque in the world, approximately the size of 5 football fields.
- 40,000 people can pray here at the same time, and during Eid that actually happens.
- It has the world's largest carpet, 60,570 sq. ft. It's quite beautiful, too.
And there you have it, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Light on words, heavy on pictures, just the way you like it.
